Impact framework

The IMPACT (Integrated Microbial Physiology: Analysis, Characterization, and Translation) is an extensible Python package to assist scientists and engineers working with large biological datasets. This tool aims to streamline the process of data interpretation, modeling, and visualization, tailored explicitly for the bioengineering field where microbial organisms are genetically engineered to address challenges across health, environmental protection, and sustainability sectors.

Given the iterative cycle of design, build, test, and data interpretation inherent to microbial engineering, the IMPACT framework seeks to accelerate this process. The cycle is complex due to the natural intricacies of biological systems, requiring stepwise modifications to achieve the desired phenotypes. Advances in molecular biology, such as robust DNA synthesis, assembly techniques, and liquid handling automation, alongside scale-down characterization platforms, have increased the generation of large, heterogeneous datasets. The IMPACT framework is crafted to manage these datasets effectively.

This tool is particularly beneficial for facilitating the development of Python-based data analysis workflows, catering to various stakeholders involved in the bioengineering process. It offers open-source resources for data analysis, physiology characterization, and translation to visualization, thereby addressing the bottleneck of data analysis throughput in microbial engineering.
